A good solid bearded-Steve album. He still relied on the Dukes for this whole tour. I ain't never seen a metal garbage can used as an instrument in a concert before this (Ashes to Ashes)! Good stuff! I think he was looking at houses in NYC during this tour. It's an amazing treat how Steve can take himself and you to other places in the world, back and forth in time like he does. He takes you from Mexico to the West Bank on this album. Simply amazing songwriting. Take it from me, the #1 Steve Earle fan. I'll boast now - I have bootlegged down Copperhead Road, have hung out with Steve after the shows by the tour bus. I've bumped skull rings with him, and given him my CD's to listen to. -WoW.
