I agree with a previous posting, this album takes some listening to appreciate the arrangement / lyrics / songs. I was not a big fan after the first listening, but I've grown to appreciate it. It's obvious that she put a lot of thought into the lyrics which reflects her life after her breakup, etc.
As a long-standing Shania fan, this is certainly not in her usual style. This is, without any doubt, the most personal set of songs that I've heard in a long time and yes, they do take some listening to – multiple times, so it’s not the “easy listening” that we’re used to, but that certainly doesn’t make it a “bad album” – in my book, it’s very good.
What you, the reader, must take notice of is the fact that she's singing at all, given what Lyme’s Disease did to her vocal cords. To have the courage to not only write but record such a personal album after what she’s been through takes guts and I for one take my hat off to her for that.
She writes of finding evidence of “the other woman”, of betrayal, anger, finding love again – anyone who’s been through those experiences will relate to all those emotions in the lyrics, so I urge you to at least give this album more than just a passing glance and really listen to it.
From a great Shania Twain fan I have to say that her new
album is a great disappointment. I know that from her latest
release Up it couldn´t get any better. So sad what she comes
with now - the best of luck anyway...
Surely a Welcome Back album - worth buying and listening
